Most anyone can start a vitamin supplement store whether it be an online or a brick and mortar location. No special skilled behavior or knowledge is needed. If you buy your vitamin supplements online, you could be buying from a fifteen-year-old in New Mexico.
We all think as long as it’s sealed it is safe, right? Wrong.
What a lot of people do not see is that vitamin supplements are not controlled like drugs. They are regulated like food. This means that unless and until a problem develops, the only thing we are going to realize about the item is what the manufacture lets us know. The FTC and the FDA work together on issues such as false claims, but they usually do not get concerned until after there is a problem. Furthermore, unlike drugs, vitamin supplements don’t have to be evaluated or offer any proof before selling.
Many unprincipled vitamin supplement shops have sold dietary supplements that were really placebos and are not the merchandise they said it was. Many others had components that were not revealed on the label. The FDA seized more than nine million dollars worth of dietary supplements including vitamin supplements from 2002 to 2004, these were either tagged with false claims or were not approved drugs masked as supplements. Even if a supplement claims to be all natural, it can interact with medication you are currently taking or a medical condition you may have.
Many times a vitamin supplement is needed. My physician has suggested specified supplements to me. If they do however, they note exactly what they are and suggests to use the same store. The important thing here is that I know my vitamin supplement store. I have become acquainted with the person who owns it and I am familiar with the products they sell. There is a uniformity there that promotes safety when I frequent there.
This does not imply that a vitamin supplement store has to be a permanent structure in order to be counted safe. But, do your homework before you purchase from an online store. For a particular example, if you can not find their phone number and physical address for the online store, go on to the next site. This could go for any online company. Any true company will show their contact info. Not only can you contact them, but you can investigate them.
After you realize a vitamin supplement store’s name and physical address, you can contact the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed with them. This will also make it better to search the FTC and FDA websites for any corrective action when you have their contact info.
Additionally, another reason not to do business with a vitamin supplement store online is if they make any absurd claims. Like this cures everything, buy it now, it won’t last, etc. As a matter of fact, if a supplement claims to cure or treat an illness or condition, it stops being sold as a dietary supplement and needs to become marketed as a drug. That is when the FDA and FTC begin sending out warning letters that can be more serious.
Prior to buying from any vitamin supplement store use your better senses and do your research to guarantee your safety. Research the FDA and FTC websites if you have further questions or concerns.
